POSITION OBJECTIVE

 

The Student Support Coordinator works collaboratively with the administrative team to create and maintain a positive school climate and culture. This role provides direct support to students, coordinates building-wide student support systems, and ensures interventions and follow-up strategies are implemented effectively.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

Student Support & Behavior Management

  • Serve as the point person for daily student behavior incidents and ensure appropriate follow-up with staff, families, and students.
  • Work directly with students to de-escalate challenging behaviors and support reentry into the learning environment.
  • Provide direct instruction in social skills, self-regulation strategies, and behavioral expectations.
  • Facilitate restorative dialogues as needed between students and affected parties.
  • Serve as a behavior coach for students and staff, modeling effective approaches and methods to support student engagement and regulation.

Coordination & Collaboration

  • Facilitate daily student support meetings to coordinate interventions and assign Student Support Team members.
  • Support documentation and communication of Intervention Plans under the direction of the Principal and Assistant Principal.
  • Facilitate Coordinated Service Plan meetings and complete required documentation as directed.
  • Participate as a member of the MTSS team.

Documentation & Communication

  • Complete daily documentation regarding incidents in the electronic student information system.
  • Communicate with families and staff regarding incidents, follow-up, and student progress.
  • Assist in preparing student support systems for the upcoming school year, including edits to the Student Handbook, in-service planning, and other related tasks.

QUALIFICATIONS

 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily, in addition to the following:

Experience & Education

 

  • 3–5 years of experience in an educational or student support setting preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to effectively respond to directives and adapt to alternating routines.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with a variety of individuals and groups, including students and staff.
  • Knowledge of:
    • Restorative Practices, Zones of Regulation, Social-Emotional Learning, and Trauma-Informed Practices.
    • De-escalation strategies and CPI (physical restraint) certification.
    • Social, emotional, and cognitive developmental stages of school-aged students.
    • Data collection, entry, and analysis for student support and interventions.

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND STRESS

  • Frequent standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, and using hands/fingers.
  • Occasional reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and lifting/moving up to 50 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Occasionally exposed to outside weather and extreme cold.
  • Noise level is usually moderate.
