JOB TITLE: Orton-Gillingham Tutor/Instructor

POSITION OBJECTIVES: To provide direct instruction to students in the area of reading and writing.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Work with assigned students individually or in groups to address basic reading and writing skills
- Plan individual lessons and prepare services based on student needs
- Assist in evaluating student progress and needs
- Assist, in consultation with classroom teachers and other relevant personnel, in developing formats for instruction, routines and teaching strategies that support student growth
- Conduct ongoing progress monitoring and data collection on student performance
- Participate as assigned, to assist in the development of student plans and assessing student progress and needs
- Attend and participate in regular student meetings and or other relevant team meetings as needed to share progress, strategies and other relevant information pertaining to student learning
- Communicate regularly with case managers, classroom teachers and or parents as deemed necessary to share progress and learning updates
- Participate in and/or supervise various school activities
- Attend and participate in all relevant training and/or professional development opportunities as assigned
- Other duties as assigned
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to, receives direction from, evaluated by building administrator.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily, in addition to the following:
- Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in education and/or a related field. 3-5 years experience working in an educational setting with youth.
- Knowledge: Background knowledge and skills in areas such as Wilson reading, Orton- Gillingham and the ability to draw from a variety of resources to plan lessons related to literacy skills.
- Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as policy and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors, faculty, students and parents.
- Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Ability to effectively respond to directives and be flexible with alternating routines. Ability to communicate courteously, efficiently and effectively with a variety of individuals including students, faculty and staff, administrators, parents and representatives from outside organizations. Ability to work cooperatively, remain calm and be efficient.
- Computer Skills and Experience: Good basic computer skills including word processing and spreadsheets.

WORKING CONDITIONS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
